SCHLOEMER Pushing for GSA as TAXPAYER-FUNDED Sex Club in West Bend Schools

Shana Schloemer (GLBTQ sex therapist out of Cedarburg), a resident of West Bend, has decided our schools need a Gay Straight Alliance club - and evidently wants the taxpayers to pay for it.

Schloemer, whose claim to fame is the Safe Space for Washington County (a refuge she proclaims to offer for homosexuals in the community), is putting out the word on her Facebook, as well as West Bend's CandlelightCollective's Facebook to organize a MOB to show up at the school board work session on Monday, as well as the school board meeting directly following where the GSA will have "their" attorney (evidently this would be Dan Patrykus - same guy that tried to get the Grothman thank-you card shut down) speak on "their" behalf. I'm sure he'll throw out scare tactics like "I'll sic the ACLU on you" and "I'll sue you for discrimination" or some other lefty flap.

Ah yes, the infamous West Bend attorneys. Deters, Fincke, and Patrykus (uses his law office as a recall center for Sen. Grothman). Not necessarily in that order, and not necessarily at one law firm. Just three oddballs on the liberal fringe.

Then we have KRISTIN PEKOLL getting in the act ( can't say I haven't been reminding you again and again of her agenda for our youth).

And, surprise, surprise- MICHAEL TYREE, West Bend's very own former library director. IMAGINE THAT.

West Bend School District's Kathy Zarling, Administrator of Pupil Services, has apparently rewritten the co-curricular policy to try to weasel this sex club into our schools.

Instead, maybe all co-curriculars should undergo some scrutiny. Perhaps, in light of the needs to trim the budget, we should only allow those clubs that have direct ties to the academics be funded by the taxpayers. All others can stand on their own as after-school and student-led. Really. They'll be okay. Promise.

Please mark your calendars for Monday, May 9th to support the West Bend High Schools Gay Straight Alliance being discussed before the Board Of Instruction! I will give time and location details later, but should be afternoon/evening. We need LOTS of support to get the GSA official club status. It is ILLEGAL and DISCRIMINATORY that it has been denied thus far.-Shana

      • 2 people like this.
        • Michael Tyree I'll try to get out of work in time so I can be there for all aspects of the "discussion."
        • Shana Dunn Schloemer We are actually planning to have ONLY our attorney speak. The opposing side who will show up will say all kinds of ridiculous, hate filled, homophobic things and hide it behind religion. We are not going to start a verbal assault. Just a peaceful show of support with our lawyer speaking so don't be surprised to not see any of us piping up. :)
        • Michael Tyree Thanks for the clarification. I'm just going to offer moral, emotional and spiritual support. Hatred hiding behind the veil of religion sickens me. There's a big difference between sanctified and sanctimonious, though that logic seems to be lost on many people in our community.

Wausau Library Censors Movie - Defies ALA Policy

In an odd twist of fate, the Wausau Library has been in the midst of a battle concerning the use of a meeting room for a movie. Thanks to the Pro-Life Thomas More Society lawyers, the victory actually went to the taxpayers.

While here in West Bend our librarians were so afraid of a parent's request to protect minor children from porn that they called in the ALA themselves, in Wausau they are doing just the opposite!

Public library meeting room policy apparently depends on the political whims of library directors. Contrast two recent incidents. In Litchfield, CT, a library refused to prevent a talk by an anti-Semitic speaker. On the other hand, in Wausau, WI, a library canceled the showing of an anti-abortion movie.

West Bend says, "All things for all people, regardless of age."
Litchfield, CT, says, "All things for all people, unless it doesn't fit our political agenda."
Wausau says, "Ditto what Litchfield says."

Or is that what West Bend was saying all along? YOU decide.

Deborah? Wherefore art thou, Deborah?

Deep Throat in the Public Library -

Curtsy: Dan Kleinman, Safelibraries

Deep Throat in the Public Library

Deep Throat in the public library?  Will Manley brings us the case of a book that quietly disappeared after a patron complained: "Dear Monday from the Unwinders Tavern – Any Advice for Deep Throat?," by Will Manley, Will Unwound, 6 February 2011, #355.

The issue is whether the facts as presented represent a case of "institutional censorship."  The question Will Manley asks his many readers is, "What should Deep Throat do?"

There is a bigger question.  Why is there a need for a library to feel the need to remove a book quietly in the first place?  Is the removal of the book a problem, or is the knee jerk reaction of the American Library Association [ALA] the problem that causes librarians to fear its reaction?

ALA mischaracterizes every single book challenge
in 2009.  Instead of "deciding for others," perhaps
460 patrons are properly seeking application of
existing book selection policies and practices.
Think about it.  Every single personin 2009 who challenged a book in a public library was vilified by the ALA.  All 460 of them.  No exceptions.  Zero.  All 460 were derided as "censors."  See my report on this here:  "The Parent Trap:  ALA Uses Banned Books Week to Ridicule Patrons Complying with ALA Materials Reconsideration Policies."

So that's how and why Banned Book Week is used by the ALA.  To ridicule patrons seeking to challenge books and cow them into silence.

Silence.  The opposite of free speech the ALA claims to promote.

West Bend Library celebrates....GAY HISTORY MONTH?

Now, generally the West Bend Community Memorial Library runs nice little pieces in the West Bend Daily News showcasing book recommendations and activities.  I must have missed the article on GLBTQ Month.  Oh, wait.  I don't think our library publicized that.  But it is certainly there for all your kids to see.  Book after book of homosexual YA selections.  Books with sexually explicit materials right there, enticing your child.  My, we have gotten bold, haven't we?  I know that the "A" word is a bit harsh, but I have to say it.  It appears our library is doing what we thought all along. Advocating.

Here we have something more than just literature.  We have advertising (another "A" word) for the Trevor Helpline for GLBTQ youth/minors.  (For those who don't know the code, GLBTQ stands for gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/questioning.)

Here's a YA (young adult) homosexual book being encouraged to minors in the Gay History Month display:

These are all Young Adult homosexual books for minors.  Do I sense another "A" word coming on?
Could it be........agenda?

This Facebook info states the primary mission of the group is to "promote" GLBTQ information.  Indeed.  And our library just happens to facilitate!

Let's toss in homosexual materials for the little children, too.  You know, the ones that can't even read yet.

How about exposing those bullied celebrities, too.  Really get our point across.  Nice display, YA Zone!

So here you have it....many of the sexually explicit books not only in your YA Zone, but promoted by your very own library.

Parents, please accompany your children and know what is being shoved in their faces.  Realize that your library is NOT A SAFE PLACE.  Children are being exploited every day, and not just on the streets, in the inner cities, or on school playgrounds.  It's right in your own public library.  BE FOREWARNED.

Naturally, the "H" word and "B" word will be slung my way shortly.  (homophobe and bigot)  Not so, dear ones.  I just have an aversion to pornographic sex acts being shotgunned out to minor children.  You know, like most of the nation.  The ones that actually use ratings to alert parents to impending inappropriate materials.  But we wouldn't want to step on a minors "right" to free speech, now, would we?  ;-)

Local Librarian Shows True Colors/Agenda for Youth

It's been a while, but sometimes old ground is worth revisiting.

Recall the West Bend Library porn in the Young Adult section issue.  Numerous times I had pointed out HERE and HERE and HERE that it appeared our Young Adult librarian at the West Bend Community Memorial Library seemed to have an agenda that targeted the youth of our community.  Now that time has passed and she has her ALA nanny, it appears she is becoming lax and allowing the world to see the truth.

As a case in point, let's take a look at our Young Adult Librarian's Facebook page as it looks today -HERE.  (Be assured this link won't last long, but have no fear, I took screen shots for another day.)

Just a few favorites on our YA librarian's list:

I Support Wisconsin Gay Community
Obama Endorses "don't ask, don't tell" compromise in Congress
Being liberal (Ok, even though she listed this, I found it humorous and couldn't help including it...)
Gay Straight Alliance
Gay Marriage
Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (also Gay)
Marriage Equality
Day of Silence
Ellen Degeneres
Neal Patrick Harris

AUTHORS:
Chris Crutcher  (author of books such as Whale Talk - see example HERE)
Brent Hartinger (gay youth novelist who writes gay novels)

Our YOUNG ADULT LIBRARIAN also has a list of her favorite books she recommends, such as:

Alt Ed - See excerpts HERE.
Whale Talk - See excerpts HERE.
Rats Saw God - See excerpts HERE (scroll down to title).
Geography Club - See excerpts HERE.

...and other deplorable titles that expose and encourage the youth in our community to subject materials that are sexually explicit and/or inappropriate.

Draw your own conclusions.  The evidence is clear.

This is what the WEST BEND COMMUNITY MEMORIAL LIBRARY was asked to do for its youth and the community they serve:

1. Reclassification of Youth-Targeted Pornographic Books into the adult section of the library.  ANSWER:  NO.
2. Visual identification of explicit material with a parental advisory.  ANSWER:  NO.
3. Restrict Library-generated Online Sexual Content.  ANSWER:  NO.
4. Balanced Literature on Controversial Issues including homosexuality.  ANSWER:  NO.
5. Children's Internet Protection – require the libraries to implement technology protection to protect minors from internet porn on public computers in accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act.  ANSWER:  NO

What can you do?

1.  Write a letter to the West Bend Common Council expressing your concerns, requesting they look into the above issues.  Be sure to "cc" the Library Board!
2.  Check out the books on the YA list HERE or HERE.  Read them.  Note the vulgarities, profanity, explicit sex....  Ask for a "Request for Reconsideration" form.  Fill it out.  Have others do same.  Take them to the library and ask for reclassification of offensive and sexually explicit materials for minors.
3.  Call your local library director, Michael Tyree, and request changes in policy to reflect the above requests.
4.  Write a letter to your local library board to request changes in policy to reflect the above requests.

Love your community.  Hold your library accountable.  Your taxes pay for these materials.  The library staff is accountable to YOU.

Local Library Takes Up Advocacy for.....gorillas?

Our local Young Adult Librarian, Kristin Pekoll (you know, the one who apparently chooses the sexually inappropriate books for our youth at our library) is now partnering with WBHS students in advocating for ..... gorillas.

Today's West Bend News:

A number of our animal species are becoming increasingly endangered.

Among them are the gentle, noble and intelligent mountain gorillas. Internet sources say only about 600 to 700 of these majestic creatures are alive today and that number dwindles as their homeland is destroyed.
The West Bend Library is partnering with S.e.e.d, the environmental club at West Bend High School, to show people that what we do locally can affect things globally.

I have no problem with those who want to spend their time trying to save gorillas, whales, pandas, ants, et. al,  from extinction, but I am wondering....

Would the library consider partnering with pro-life WBHS students by placing a box for maternity clothing and baby items for collection at the library to encourage women not to kill their babies?

Do public libraries generally advocate for anything not related to library issues?

Since the last library board meeting minutes posted are from February 2nd, one can hardly know if the library board approved this advocacy or not, but one can certainly learn a lot about the crappy, leaky roof.

Sexting banned at Hartford High School

Good, but here is the concern.  What exactly IS "sexually explicit"?  I mean, really.  Did the Hartford School District just CENSOR the students?  Uh oh.  Here come the FREE SPEECH ADVOCATES!

(Pssst!  The list includes some of your favorite West Benders, like Dr. Paul Rice, Dr. Steve Engelbrecht, (what's with the eye docs, anyway?) - Kris Beaver (West Bend School Board!), Tom O'Meara III (former city alderman), Pastor Pam Marolla (Our Savior's Lutheran), Dr. Muth (General Clinic of WB), Mike Weston (former School Board member)......)

Hartford Union High School may be the first district in the area to ban “sexting” — the use of cell phones and other devices to transmit sexually explicit photos.

The School Board bypassed a second reading and approved the proposal at its Monday night meeting, said Hartford Union High School Board President William Priegel.

“We realize this is only a start, this is new territory being charted by schools,” said Priegel.

West Bend Librarians/ Board Members reach for celebrity status among peers

Here's the latest gossip.

Publication:APD - West Bend Daily News;
Date:Jul 3, 2009;

The fight over which books should be allowed in the young adult category of the West Bend library will be the subject of a panel discussion during the nation’s largest gathering of librarians this month in Chicago.

West Bend Community Memorial Library Director Michael Tyree, Young Adult Librarian Kristin Pekoll, Library Board Chairman Barbara Deters, former library Board trustee Mary Reilly-Kliss and community organizer Maria Hanrahan, who started West Bend Parents for Free Speech, will conduct a panel discussion about the West Bend book controversy Monday, July 13, during the seven-day American Library Association (ALA) annual conference.

......

So, West Bend, how do you feel about the librarians that you pay to represent you appearing as "special guests" to speak about how they shut you down? Use West Bend as their example of how others can follow suit and bow to the ALA's policies instead of community standards? Reduce a community to nothing more than a "yes man" to the ALA? Not only do your tax dollars pay the salaries of these librarians, they pay for them to work against your values as a community. Apparently, they are proud of it, too.

....

No city money is being used to pay for the locals to participate in the ALA conference, Tyree said. Their expenses are being covered by the organization. “It’s a two-hour discussion,” Tyree said, “We’re a new addition to the ALA schedule.” “I’m definitely excited to participate,” said Pekoll, a seven-year veteran of the West Bend library. “I’ve never had an opportunity to go to ALA before.”

.....

I was hoping to receive a thank you note from Pekoll for helping her along to her first ALA conference. It's the very least she could do since she would not have achieved this attention had WBCFSL not brought it to the attention of the community.

....

The panel discussion is sponsored by the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF), Intellectual Freedom Committee and the Freedom to Read Foundation.

Yes, we know them well. They are the organization that came in and trumped parent/taxpayer wishes. For some reason, the ALA/OIF seems to think they know West Bend better than it's citizens do. We shouldn't be surprised, I guess, since this is their common practice.

....

“Meet the librarians and community members who are fighting to keep library materials on the shelves in West Bend, Wis.,” is how the June 30 ALA news release announcing the panel discussion describes the event.

....

As opposed to WBCFSL, who is fighting to keep library materials on the shelves in West Bend, Wis. Since we agree, we think we should be able to attend, as well! We can explain why our only difference is that we would like the books appropriately placed according to community standards, and that parents really DO care what how their library represents them, and expects them to follow through, as well.

Pekoll said the library is putting together a PowerPoint presentation that includes some graphics, pictures of the library and city and clips from the June 2 Library Board meeting that included more than two hours of public comment about the YA books.

....

Wow. I hope that isn't being done on taxpayer time. We will be asking that this same PowerPoint presentation be made available to the citizens of West Bend. After all, we want to know how we are being represented to the nation!
