FBI - West Bend man indicted in child porn case

FBI/Milwaukee reports:

West Bend, Wisconsin Man Indicted for Sexual Exploitation of a
Child and Possession of Child Pornography

Acting United States Attorney Michelle L. Jacobs announced today that Martin A. Ott, 55, from West Bend, Wisconsin, was indicted today for sexual exploitation of a child which involved the production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Ott was originally arrested on December 18, 2008, after a federal search warrant was executed at his residence in West Bend, Wisconsin.

....

According to Acting United States Attorney Michelle L. Jacobs, the “Department of Justice has made the protection of our nation’s children a top priority through Project Safe Childhood, and prosecutions such as this further this priority.” (emphasis mine)

Really? The DOJ is deciding how to protect our kids? It's their "top priority?" I wonder if they would want to take a look at some of our library computers?

My investigation of library computers is all being documented and given to authorities who WILL be looking into this as the FBI is preparing to work with local police on this issue.

They do care.

Ginny, I don't have the time to read everything. Please tell me if this guy's activities had anything to do with the West Bend library. Thank you.

Ginny is about 6 months late reporting on this indictment. Actually, Mr. Ott was sentenced last week to 30 years in prison for his actions.

And, no, there is no evidence he used the library for any of his illegal acts. Apparently he used his America Online account from home.

You tag this post as having something to do with the ALA. Yet, it has nothing to do with them.

Misleading people damages your credibility.

Anon before me. This awful thing happened and that is what you have to say.

I, for one am glad the Feds got him. I also think the library computers should be checked on a regular basis. Who knows what they may find that could help the community.

My "community values" would rather have the DOJ concentrating on situations like this, where they find someone who is actually producing child pornography (in this case conducting sexual activities with a 7-year old) in the comfort of his home, ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT MY CHILD ATTENDS as opposed to monitoring the useage of patrons at the library. And as I understand it, patrons using the library computers show their library card and put their name on a log. Also, from what I have read, these child pornographers are into amassing collections, trading images, etc - don't know how useful public computers would be for that purpose.

What is the point of linking to a 102 page training manual? If there is something relavant to the post, why not quote it?

Any way they can capture these people would be fine with me. If it's at the library or at their home, either way they need to caught.

Hey, why do you suppose they haven't arrested the WB librarians for child porn?

SafeLibraries® said...

There's no child porn in the West Bend library, from what I've been able to gather.

Mark, I think we agree.

Hiho.

Judy Wheeldon-Activist said she is doing her own investigation of the libraries computers and all the documentation WILL be looked into and the FBI will be working in the WBPD regarding this?
Are you kidding me? Again, more city resident tax payer being spent. She also lives in the township and not city proper. I may be wrong on that and if I am I apologize, but that is my understanding. Who is going to pay the the cost the city has to expend for both city and federal agencies. The residence of the CITY of WB. NOT the township peeps.
Furthermore, I do know that no such investigation would take place by any police agency. The library is not going to be breaking the law just so their computers do not have to have filters. I also know that if someone is at a library computer and is viewing child porn, or any porn there are ramifications for this. Some of which could be legal issues for the person who is viewing it.
I can see police or FBI invovlment is an act occures in or on library grounds. However, that can happen even if the perpetrator is not or had not watched any porn including child porn.
It has been said parents should be confident to be able to send their children to the library without fear of them accessing info the parents disagree with.
OK I get that, but lets say this: parents sending their children to the library and the child is not looking at the books tht have called to the table, but they are looking for other themed books or in the downstairs childrens section and some freak comes up and snatches then or god forbid worse assults them.
So I guess Ginny's statement that the library is not a safe place for children could be considered true. Than again neither would the park down the street from their house, or even at a friends house. Someone in that household could molest said child. So there really is no safe place for children in this world unless the parents are with that child.
Oh is't that part of the opposition's platform.
To say that the WBPD and FBI are basically going to raid the library because of the computers not having filters, is way to extreme but certainly a great way to add more fuel to the fire. So for that A+ Ms. Wheeldon.

I generally don't respond to your erratic rants, Kristina, but it is necessary to point out that Judi Wheeldon is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Click on her name and you can check out her blog. Do the homework before drinking your Kool-Aid.

She has no credibility, Anonymous - and her pseudo-reporting skills are a joke.

Hahn- You say she's a joke and so is her reporting? Well, this is one little blog in the enitre blogoshphere.

If you don't like it why do you continue to come here?

Ginny has plenty of creditibilty, but because you don't agree with her you lash out.

You spew the same hate that you claim to be against. You all are for freedom of speech, so let Ginny have her freedom to speak.

Anonymous - Such a suitable name for you.

Yes, that's what I said.

Ginny,
I stand corrected on the residency of Judi. I am not above taking responsibility and apologizing for mistakes I make. However, beside the residency issue, I stand by what I said.

And no I won't drink the Jim Jones kool aid thanks but no thanks...
