A what? A HODAG.

If you are not from Wisconsin, the legend of the Hodag is most likely unknown to you.

Some people actually believe this.

What IS a hodag?

Curtsy to hodag.info -

CHECK IT OUT HERE:
"First discovered by prominent Rhinelander resident Eugene Simeon Shepard, the Hodag has been an integral part of Northern Wisconsin history for over one hundred years.

While nobody has precisely pinpointed the first sighting of the Hodag, archived news reports from the early 1890's indicate that in 1893, an important discovery was made that would grow to define the Rhinelander area.

Gene Shepard's discovery, the Hodag, had "the head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail without spears at the end". Hearing of the fearsome beast, a ragtag band of vigilante Rhinelander area residents assembled and set out on an epic voyage to capture this menacing "Hodag". "

The Hodag is a symbol of times gone by when you took your family up north, enjoyed the lake to get away from the heat of the city.

Times gone by? I just did that a few weeks ago....

My family always vacationed in the Rhinelander area when I was a child. I was given a silver charm for a bracelet for a birthday gift when I was about 12 or so. I still have it!

Can you believe it? There are people who think that my blog, written by me, should center around the library. LOLOLOL! Sorry to disappoint all of you. This is a blog for "things Wisconsin." Local issues, Wisconsin issues, and other issues as I feel like posting.

I liken that to the way the ALA takes control of a local library. There. Gotta give 'em their fix! Someone must be feeling better already! :-)

It's been a while since I've been the area...is it still packed?

Hodag, shodag. I'm from New Jersey. We have the Jersey Devil! But ever since steering $500 in the direction of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, I haven't seen the Jersey Devil since. Where shall I donate money in Wisconsin to keep the Hodag away from me?
