Government run medicine is scary. That's why people hate Medicare so much, and most people chose to used private insurance instead of Medicare.

Oh wait...private insurers cut old people off...and pretty much all older people are on Medicare...and rates of satisfaction with Medicare are far higher than satisfaction with private insurers....

Nevermind.

I do think everyone currently screeching about 'socialized medicine' should sign statements stating that have no desire to ever be enrolled in government care like Medicare.

Government has very specific duties in this nation and the provision of charity is not among them. Our Constitution establishes the boundaries of the authority of the federal government. HR 3200 goes far, far beyond those boundaries. If people want socialized medicine, they can institute it at a state level-like Mass. did. The federal government has no business in healthcare. (But then they have no business nationalizing the banks or auto companies either.)

There is also the private charity option. If the American people want to have a place where those without health insurance can go to have medical procedures paid for, then set up a private charity to which those who are so inclined may donate.

The federal government does not have the right or authority to compel me to reach into my pocket, to take the money and resources I have gathered through my own labor and pay for my neighbor's health care without so much as a by-your-leave.

That is not to say that I wouldn't donate my time, money and talents, as I have and do. It is simply to say that it is rightfully my choice where to bestow the gifts of my time, money and talents. To force me to do so where I am not so inclined is nothing more or less than tyranny.

So, call me mom, do you advocate dismantling Medicare? It is a socialist program. If the federal government has no business in healthcare, do you support ending Medicare and Medicaid?

Yes, John, I do.
I advocate ending all entitlement programs at the federal level. They are beyond the enumerated powers of Congress and detrimental to our character as a nation.

And I am saying that as someone who has family members who have benefited from and are currently or were on SSI/disability, Medicare and Medicaid. It is not now, nor was it ever intended to be the federal government's place to provide charity.

"I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground: That "all powers not delegated to the United States, by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States or to the people." To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition." ~Thomas Jefferson

" To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical." ~ Thomas Jefferson

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger upon an article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on the objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." ~ James Madison

And one last quote from our founders-just for good measure.

" If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." ~ Thomas Jefferson

Call me mom,
Really? so what would you have done with the 25 severely handicapped people in my program then? Let them die? Be kept at home with family that loves them but doesn't have the ability to care for them? The government provided funds that helped keep them in programs where they were cared for and given the best opportunities to learn and progress.
This video is extremely misleading. The bill would NOT allow a government panel to decided what care is given or to whom. Most of the issues I dealt with regarding care for my clients came from private insurance companies, not the government. This "government panel" lie is a scare tactic. Unfortunately, people are falling for it.
