I just added today's podcast from the Mark Belling show to the series on the left side of this blog.
In today's show, Mark spells out open records law, then explains the action he has decided to take with our mayor and library board president.

How can anyone listen to this guy? Gadzooks. Apart from his highly annoying voice and poor diction and overinflated sense of self, he's imputing motives to the officials that are not justified by reality.
Like it or not, officials get to conduct a balancing test regarding the release of records. It's part of the process. Especially if there's the looming threat of legal action! Even just contemplating the release of months and months of records might entail discussion about how to examine, judge and possibly redact all those records. Yes, they have to do it - but yes it can take time.
And if Belling is so smart about open records requests, he should know that actually prosecuting and fining officials for violations is rather rare - usually due to DAs who are tight with the powers-that-be in a given county. Slaps on the wrists and decisions not to charge are the norm even when the facts are not contested.
In my experience with unfulfilled ORRs with purported conservative DAs like Bucher and his buddies, they're far more likely to slap and dismiss than anyone associated with the Doyle-appointed folks at the AG's office.
In my case, Bucher wouldn't even bother to compare the list of what I requested to what was delivered. He simply decided that my request had been fulfilled. I took it to the AG and they quickly confirmed I was right and Bucher was wrong.
What he is saying is absolutely explosive! Ginny, can you get a written transcript of what he is saying and place it on this blog post?
People should definitely listen to this broadcast replay. This is not an issue you hear every day.
Mark is saying the library board is trying to hide something.
I predict that one of the things they are hiding is the extent to which the American Library Association has insinuated itself into this matter.
Mark, if my prediction is correct, I would like to be interviewed on your radio show to discuss just how deep ALA control is over local communities, among other things.
Safe Libraries said, "Mark is saying the library board is trying to hide something. "
Or maybe, just maybe, the VOLUNTEER BOARD who are not library staff don't feel they should have to hand over their PERSONAL email accounts.
If they had city email accounts, this would be open and shut, no problems.
I'm just blown away by the blatant sexism and homophobia that Belling spews in this segment. People like him, CCLU's members, and some of the speakers from the LB meeting, make you guys look really bad.
Eema-le, yours is the perfect example to illustrate how people are grouped together to besmirch them all, with red herrings, no less, all the while avoiding addressing the legitimate issues raised.
Do you wish to address the substantive issues?
Dan,
When you have a group of people who support, or give the appearance that they are supporting homophobes, racists, and misogynists, it makes all of them looks bad.
There are many bloggers out there who are in support of keeping the library books where they are currently shelved, but they also use incredibly offensive language to describe WBCFSL and Ginny, and say all sorts of crazy things in general. I don't link to them, or give the appearance that I am endorsing them, because I don't want to get lumped in with them.
I'll give you a perfect example. As a Libertarian I believe in minimal government. Therefore I attended a Tea Party on April 15th, I happened to be in MI at the time. Seeing Ginny promoting the 4th of July West Bend tea party has influenced me to not attend the event because I don't want to get lumped in with her or her supporters.
I don't understand why you think that my comment wasn't substantive. Ginny brought up Mark Belling's clip. Instead of sticking to the facts Belling had to throw in some homophobia and sexism, and I simply addressed that issue. I don't really care about his ORR, he can ask for one just like anyone else can, but when he throws around statements like "gay porn" and "old lady Deters and Old lady Deiss" he makes himself look like an idiot.
Res ipsa loquitur.
