The deficit is just a smokescreen the question is who is going to get paid and who is not. For example with the recent budget shortfalls many governments are cutting back their budgets. One way to cut back the budget would be temporarily have all the people who lent the government money no longer earn interest on that money until the budget is repaired. Another way we could fix the budget is lay off janitors, teachers, road workers, etc. It is sad and says a lot about how power operates in our country that the latter loses their jobs or receives pay cuts while the former does not.
