Open Letter to Obama

Sobering thoughts.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA
By Lou Pritchett

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

......

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett

Note: Lou Pritchett is a former vice president of Procter & Gamble whose career at that company spanned 36 years before his retirement in 1989, and he is the author of the 1995 business book, Stop Paddling & Start Rocking the Boat.

I feel like living in Indonesia for four years isn't enough to make Obama not culturally American.
...just an opinion of mine.

Ginny, you left out the best part!

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

What is a 'wind mill' in scare quotes? Is that different from a regular windmill? Is it perhaps...a COMMUNIST windmill?????

I'm surprised he wasn't scared by Obama's use of dijon mustard.

This is almost as funny as it is ridiculous and frightening.

From another left out part,

the highest standard of living in the world

is not found in the U.S., but as far as I have read, in DENMARK.

Obama's education was paid for by scholarships. He's a really smart guy who managed to excel academically in his youth, so organizations wanted to pay for his tuition and living expenses.

It's pretty darn scary, there ought to be a law against it. Especially with his funny name, mixed race and mixed religious background. It's down right un-American if you ask me...even if you don't ask me.

Yet another shining example of how the conservatives in this country have lost their mind.

What really scares me about Obama is how much like president Bush he is and what a milquetoast he appears to be.

Not culturally American? Is this really the best the right can do?

Posting this garbage here makes me not want to be a part of this movement.

Old people scare me... they smell funny... and they are full of hate and petty stupidity.

Screw our "vast" oil reserves... lets burn old people for energy! We have way TOO many... and judging by this blog, they have way TOO much free time.

Support your Country... Burn Old People.

President Obama has been much more open to opposing viewpoints than president Bush ever was. You would not be able to find a quote from Obama where he wanted any of those right wing idiots silenced.

I'm pretty sure that Obama scares this poor guy because he is black... you know, he might mug you!

What a bunch of jacka55es. What in the world is wrong with you people? The entire history of literature has included sexual content, which can be very different from pornographic content.

This letter about Obama scaring you - you seriously need to grow up. Anti-American tirades like these should mortify you. Obama is hugely popular and probably will be reelected, and you will always be able to say whatever you want about him. You show me ONE piece of evidence you can't, you flaming fascist bluehairs. It was George Bush who had his security guards ban people from townhall meetings based on the liberal bumper stickers on their cars. Give me a break. Talk about the politics of paranoia, Christ almighty.

What a sad, fearful bunch you seem to be. Afraid of sex, afraid of youth, afraid of Obama, afraid of your invisble man in the sky. Sad.

What's the point of this letter? Food to stifle thought? Having read it, I'm not surprised the author is frightened by education.

Unknown said...

Frightened by life. Frightened by reality. Frightened by EVERYTHING.

I'm sorry, but the man's written two books and was covered extensively for over two years. If you don't know anything about him, you are hiding your head in the sand.

Those books were best sellers, and authors of national best seller can usually afford to live in Hyde Park quite easily.

As for living in style before the books? Perhaps our poor frightened writer can't comprehend that Michelle Obama is also the product of an Ivy League education, a lawyer, and made a substantial amount of money (nearly $300,000/year) until she quit to become First Lady. She alone could afford to keep them in style.

Lou, your just a scared old man.

Your letter reads like a listing of right wing talking points for Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Rellly, and Beck.

Can't hit all your worries, but I'll respond quickly to a few.

1. Bush ran several companies ...into the ground. He did the same to American. Obama can't do worse, and will likely do better.

2. Bush had military experience. Look where that got us. A war we didn't need against a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11.

3. Lacks class? Whoa dude...This is the classiest President we've had since Kennedy. And unlike the last one, he really is smart.

4. Our health care system is broken. It needs fixing. And instead of running it to line the pockets of insurance companies, let's run it so people get real health care.

5. Our own vast oil reserves would last one year, and that would be after 5 to 10 years build up to mine them. Oil is our past. We need other energy technology for the future.

6. "...the American capitalist goose..." sure did lay an egg. Just not golden. In 2004, we were number 6 of 10 for highest standard of living. In 2008 we don't even make the list.
Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada,
Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Netherlands, and France.

7. This President listens to more views, opposing and complimentary than the last one. Sometimes, too many for my taste, but at least he listens.

8. Seriously. You don't really believe he thinks he's omnipotent and omniscient, right? That's just silly on the face of it.

9. We came closer to losing more freedoms under Bush II than ever. I feel sure that 8 years from now, you will still be free to write silly and fearful letters just like this one.

The real question is, what aren't you afraid of?

It is my hope that that the goofballs who are writing these silly right wing comments are older and will not be contributing there regressive garbage in a few years. I hope you live long healthy lives but I do hope that a great deal of that length is in the past.

druidbros said...

Now you know how liberals felt when Bush II was president. But much like us this feeling will pass, if not just eat more bran. And take it easy because you've got at least three more years. And on a quick note, you do realize that the country as a whole is becoming more progressive right? The Old White Man network will eventually become a minority at last.

Obama scares you because he demonizes the conservative pundits? Who exactly demonizes who here? Did Obama insist that Limbaugh is a friend of terrorists who want to destroy our country? Did he accuse Glenn Beck of lying about his religion in order to gain support? Or did he accuse Hannity of lying to the public about being an American? Let's be serious here. The demonizing isn't coming from Obama, but instead from the pundits you want to defend.

I feel like I shouldn't have to ask you to grow up or be more mature, but you claims here are quite inane.
