West Bend Citizens go ahead with meeting despite refusal of Library Board/Director

PORNOGRAPHIC BOOKS IN THE WEST BEND LIBRARY MEETING BACK ON CALENDAR
THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 6:30 P.M.
SILVERBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL GYMNASIUM

WEST BEND, WI: Though the West Bend Community Memorial Library director, Michael Tyree, has cancelled the meeting to discuss pornographic books in the Youth section of the library, concerned West Bend citizens will still be holding the meeting at the same place, same date and same location.

Excerpts from the explicit, graphic, and pornographic materials will be read and displayed for parents and other taxpayers to see what is in the West Bend Library. Parents are strongly urged NOT to bring children to this meeting. We will be explaining what has taken place and what we are asking for in a very clear and concise manner.

Open mic time will be provided for any community members who wish to express their viewpoints, both for or against our complaint with the library, that being the offering of explicit, graphic, pornographic books for minor children.
Time will be limited to 3 minutes.

For more information call 1-866-910-2840.

Do these books have full color nude photos of a sexual nature? What are the titles?

"Deal With It" has explict cartoon-type pictures of genitals and sex acts. If you are able to attend the meeting on Thursday evening (see newer post), we will be going over this issue in detail. If not, there is an earlier post that gives links to excerpts...

I'm confused..the bulletin states March 26th. Was that the cancelled meeting? I plan to attend and don't want to miss out.

Yes, that was the original date, time and place for the library board meeting. We have chosen to continue to meet despite the cancellation of the board and library staff.

This whole issue is about censorship, nothing more. If you believe that information, books, ideas or speech is something that one person or group should screen before YOU see it then you should work towards repealing the first amendment or live in the middle east.

The hypocrisy of the sex issue is the worst of it too. We are all born with a sex drive and the respective "equipment". It is a personal freedom and basic human right to have sex and sexual feelings. If one finds information about sex difficult then please exercise your freedom to walk away, turn off the television or pick up a different book. You have no right to impose your moral beliefs on anyone else.

The library is right to refuse to dignify this "meeting" with its presence. The citizens who are objecting to materials held by the library are so extreme in their requests that none of this can even be taken seriously. Sex is not dirty. Teens have sexual feelings & sometimes are sexually active. We need to provide them with reading materials that represent all points of view. This is exactly what the library appears to be doing. This blogger & her group are attempting to censor all materials with which they do not agree. Our constitution, fortunately, protects us from the actions of extremists. Kudos to the director & staff at West Bend Library for providing citizens with a wide range of literature & other material that will contribute to an educated, informed & enlightened society.

"Teens have sexual feelings & sometimes are sexually active. We need to provide them with reading materials that represent all points of view. This is exactly what the library appears to be doing."

Which is exactly why out-of wedlock births in the U.S. have skyrocketed to over 40%. We condone teen promiscuity. We condone all promiscuity.

And as the parent to my children, it is my responsibility to teach my children about sex, not the public school or library. The more responsibility we give to the public in raising our children, the more out of control morality in this country is becoming. It's apparent it's perfectly acceptable to impose your immoral beliefs on the other side though. Correct?

As I've said before, if these books are perfectly acceptable for the pre-teen section, then where are the Playboys and such for the adults? Is there some reason those are being censored and not allowed? Why isn't their point of view being allowed? Or are they just behind the counter and I haven't seen them?
